Acoustic ExplosiveAcoustic Explosives
A recording of the great Basie fireworks during the Swiss National celebration day . The fireworks are recorded at a distance of 60 meters . I am not aware of any other recorded material that so dramatically points out insufficiencies in micro and macrodynamics, transient attack and sheer power output and handling capacity . If your playback chain is up to the task, nothing will come between you and a spectacular experience.
BTR 27 801 US $29.95

DociAdmir Doci & the Galatea Quartet

This live recording from Tonhalle Zurich was initially intended as a demo recording for the ensemble. As such, it is an outstandingly unconstrained performance by the Galatea Quartet and world-class guitarist Admir Doci.

How B:There Records Makes Recordings
Since it is the recording equipment that actually produces the CD in your hands, the overall quality of the final recording is primarily dependent on the quality of the equipment used.

Below is a short description of how B:THERE RECORDS are produced and why they truly are an enjoyable anomaly...

The Micropohnes.

Only two f Bruel&Kjaer 4006 omnidirectional microphones which are C37 lacquered, cotton-wrapped and Cryo treated. The Microphone stands are made from wood – because not only right at the microphone, but throughout the whole recording chain the Material Inherent Sound plays an extremely important role.

Microphone Cables

The Microphone cables are our own construction. The conductors are cryo treated pure silver solid core wires with an ultra thin lacquer-based (not teflon!) and cotton sleeve insulation, terminated in Redel plugs (www.lemo.com).
If possible I always run short lengths of cable, although these cables are of ultra high quality – far ahead from what is typically used in recording studios.

The 6-Channel Microphone Preamplifier and A/D Converter

This is a custom- and hand-made design by Swiss Audio Consulting (www.audio-consulting.ch). Not a single capacitor is used throughout the whole design.
The amplifying circuit is considered the most transparent and fastest one on the planet. The whole unit is point to point wired with cotton-wrapped silver solid core wire, the microphone-preamp sits on an extremely small-sized hard-paper board (not epoxy-board!) and is supplied by two low-resistance batteries with
ultra-fast coupling. The volume control is nothing less than the world-famous silver rock transformer volume control. In the same box (solid maple wood, graphite coated) also sits the custom- and hand-made analog to digital converter
by lessloss (www.lessloss.com). It features one of the most accurate clocking circuits available and direct audio inputs on the A/D-chip´s input pin (no op-amp, no buffer). Power is supplied by the best available batteries (yes, there are differences!), too, as nowadays (much to early transformator-saturation due to multiple distortion components in the mains-power) no ordinary power supply,
be it passive or switching, is able to deliver ultra low-impedance current within very short time. We have found out that, especially with digital ciucuits, it is the combination of power-consumption-magnitude and the quality of the power supply which makes almost 100% of the sonic performance – conclusion:
Keep power consumption as low as possible (1-3 watts) combined with the best battery power supply represents pretty much the only possibility to get truly amazing results from digital technology (no matter what sampling
frequency or word length is used). However, the professional audio market has not come up with a solution that can even rudimentarily meet these described requirements. The whole preamp / converter unit is Cryo treated.

THE RECORDING MEDIA

is a custom-made, completely fanless full-blown recording computer that stores the digital data directly on HD via a Lynx interface. It is powered by its own large 12 V battery. The Lynx interface is clock-slaved to the A/D converter which represents an optimal working condition for the converter.

POSTPRODUCTION

comprises as few interference as possible. Neither in postproduction nore during the recording process any processing at all takes place (except for requantisation 24 > 16 bit). The final product, the CD, is hand- and low temperature-treated to get the best possible result from this very sensitive and widely misjudged media.

Happy listening!
